Drink of the Month – Irish Coffee
In honor of the infamous March 17th celebration, the drink of the month for March 2011 is an Irish Coffee. We’ve all had this traditional drink on St. Patty’s Day, perhaps you smuggled one into your 9am class while in college, or maybe on the morning of Marathon Monday while cheering on the runners and trying to keep warm. While you never have to wait for March to enjoy an Irish coffee, I’d bet that the most are consumed on Boston’s favorite holiday. Make your own at home with the simple recipe below, or head to Mr. Dooley’s Irish Pub and order what Boston Magazine calls the Best of Boston for an Irish Coffee.
From the classic Charles Schumann:
- 1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
- brown sugar to taste
- 1 cup strong hot coffee
- lightly whipped cream
Prepare coffee and pour into a heat-resistant Irish coffee mug, add sugar and whiskey, top with whipped cream, sprinkle some cinnamon and add a Pirouline.
If you prefer something a little sweeter, add some Bailey’s Irish cream. Regardless of how you take your Irish coffee, be sure to enjoy one on St. Patty’s Day, or any time for that matter!
