Dueling Dogs at Jerry Remy’s
Chicago has its Billy Goat and Boston had its Curse. When you think of old baseball teams with storied franchises, the two teams at the top of the list must be the Cubs and the Red Sox. Despite the deep history that runs through these teams, Haley’s Comet is actually more frequent than the Cubbies coming to Fenway. To celebrate the Cubs coming to town for the first time since 1918, Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar and Grill is hosting a hot dog duel. For only $9, you can sample the best of each historic ball parks dogs.
In the visiting dugout is the Red Hot from Chicago. Topped with neon green relish, onion, tomato, pickle, sport pepper and celery salt, this all beef Vienna natural casing dog is served on a steamed poppy seed bun. This spicy concoction is sure to put some fire on your tongue. Cool it off with Chicago’s own Two Brothers Brewing Co Domaine DuPage French Country Ale.
And for the home team is the Traditional Fenway Frank, an all beef kosher Kayem hot dog simply topped with grilled onions, sweet relish and spicy mustard. Served with a Sam Adam’s Summer Ale, this Boston summer staple will give the Red Hot a run for it’s money.
And for this contest, the BeantownEats Bean Award goes to… (drum roll please…)
THE FENWAY FRANK!!! These toppings are just too classic and produce such a simple flavor that it’s hard to pass up. I honestly thought I would like the Red Hot better, especially being a huge fan of pickles and celery salt. But simply based on taste, I have to go with Boston on this one.
I will admit that I thought Two Brothers gave Sam Adams a run for its money. While nothing beats a frosty Sam Summer at a Fenway day game in July, the Country Ale had a nice sweet flavor, with a subtle balance of hops. I am a huge fan of pale ales and IPAs, so I find it no surprise that I enjoyed the Two Brothers so much.
This special menu with the two dogs is being offered now through Sunday, marking the end of the series with the Cubs. So swing by Jerry Remy’s , try one of each and decide for yourself!!
What’s your favorite hot dog topping??
