James Bond Bar in Newton?

Well, not really, but B Street in Newton Centre certainly comes close. Whether they realize it or not, they currently have two cocktails on their drink menu that are James Bond references: the classic “Citron Vesper” (or sometimes referred to as a Vesper Martini) and the “Strawberry Fields.” The Vesper Martini first surfaced in the 1953 Bond book, Casino Royale, then again in the theatrical version in 2006. The Strawberry Fields reference is to a character in the most recent Bond film, Quantum of Solace, where Agent Fields is a red-headed MI6 Field Operative. Unfortunately, she won’t be in the next Bond film, but you may toast to her memory by ordering a Strawberry Fields cocktail at B Street.

I am sure this is a mere coincidence, but thinking more heavily about the concept of a Bond Bar is an intriguing notion. He is a man (fictional, yes) of great taste and culture, so you can bet he knows his liquors. Why not dedicate a bar menu to a classic icon of the past 60 years? Any local or even out of town Bond fan would certainly pay a visit, especially if the beverages were worth the trip.
So the next time you watch a James Bond film and want to pretend you are 007, head on down to B Street in Newton Centre and try one of these delicious cocktails. Just remember to ask for shaken, not stirred. And in case you were wondering, the ‘B’ in B Street does not stand for Bond.
