Lin at Lunch: The Mission Bar & Grill

You may remember way back in June I spent a week at the Harvard School of Public Health, and in order to get through a 45 hour week of training, I treated myself to lunch. Every day. Three trips to the Squealing Pig and one to Penguin Pizza. I managed to save the best for last, when I went to The Mission Bar and Grill on the last day of training.
Sidling up to the bar on the last day of training, I decided to reward myself with a beer. The selection at The Mission was large, and the bartender was more than happy to make some suggestions and let me taste a small sample. Once I settled on a pale ale, I perused the menu, which consists of appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches. They also have an express lunch option, which includes a choice of two: soup, salad and/or half sandwich. Although this day was a leisurely lunch, I normally have a quick lunch at work and always appreciate restaurants that have this type of express option on the menu.
Chicken Panini with grilled marinated chicken breast, granny smith apple, honey mustard, swiss brie, toasted ciabatta ($10)
I decided on the Chicken Panini, and when I saw they had Brie as an option for cheese, I asked for that instead of the Swiss that was on the menu. I don’t usually do this, choosing to let the chef dictate his/her combinations, but I have a soft spot for the apple and Brie combination. And I was glad I changed it, because this sandwich hit the spot. The sweet and savory aspect of the apple and cheese ended up pairing rally well with the pale ale I drinking too!
Is The Mission a destination spot? No. But it’s definitely a solid option in an area with few options. Good food, simple menu, friendly service: when you have all three, you have my lunch vote.
The Mission Bar and Grill is located at 724 Huntington Ave, across the street from Brigham Circle Station (green line E).
