Mac and Cheese at Max & Dylans
Such is the case at Max and Dylans, as they reached out to their fans to ask what their favorite idea or addition for Mac and cheese would be. Entries were pre-judged and five were chosen to be taste-tested; I was lucky enough to sample the five. Here they are, in my order of preference (from least to favorite):
As it implies, ground beef was added to Max and Dylans’ Macaroni and Cheese base, then topped with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. The crunch of the lettuce added to the dish, but overall it lacked a little flavor, as if in need of a few more spices.
4) Maryland Crab Cake with Asparagus
The flavor of this dish was incredible: creamy, sweet, nice texture added by the asparagus. However, being so close to the Lobster Mac and Cheese already on the menu at Mac and Dylans, and several other restaurants around the city, I thought this combo lacked some creativity.
2) Chorizo and Jalapeño
You know I’m a fan of chorizo so it’s no surprise to see this creation in my top two. Creativity won me over with this dish, as I felt like this dish was finally stepping out of the proverbial mac and cheese box with unexpected ingredients that worked.
Call me old school; I am not a fan of too many things in my mac and cheese. Perhaps this logic is why the Chipotle Mac and Cheese was my favorite. Smooth texture, and nicely-cooked pasta that held the sauce. The subtle smoke and spice of the chipotle was very well-balanced by the cool creaminess of the cheese. I’ll take three more please.
But which recipe will you see on the Max and Dylans menu?
Chorizo and Jalepeno Mac & Cheese!
Stop by either of Max & Dylans locations to try it for yourself! (And be sure to grab a dirty martini while you’re there too )
What’s in your favorite mac and cheese?
Max & Dylan’s invited me as their guest to judge Mac and Cheese Mania. Food and drink were complimentary (except for the martini). All opinions are my own.
