The Last Word: Sandy, Bourdain, The Abbey and #MurrayAid
Or in this case, the only words as we have been without power due to Sandy.
Cocktail for a Cause: The Last Word. One our favorite cocktails pioneered by a legend behind the bar, Murray Stenson, who needs your help. Please consider donating to the #MurrayAid to help raise money for Murray’s heart operation. For more info on Murray and this campaign, read this great article by Paul Clarke and check out the Facebook page.
(If you see a Last Word on a cocktail menu with the reference to Murray, order it as proceeds will go to the MurrayAid. Or come to this event at jm Curley on 11/11!)
Fish Served in a Pan: (roasted cod, potato scallion pancake, shallot cream sauce — $19.5) Without any power at home, Jon and I had to go out to dinner a couple of nights this week. On Wednesday, we decided to head to one of our favorite spots in Brookline, The Abbey. As the weather gets cooler, I’ve been craving some nice, hot fish and this entree was one of the best I’ve had in a while. I always forget how much I like The Abbey, and with it fresh in my mind, I have a feeling we’ll be there more often in the upcoming winter months.
Marsala sauce you want to bathe in: (roasted Statler chicken Marsala, confit chicken and mushroom ravioli, asparagus — $18 ) Yes, The Abbey’s sauces are that good…and so was the chicken (yes, that is a gigantic ravioli)!
Marley and Me: (Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Topped with Arugala, Olive oil, Shaved Parmesan, and Balsamic Glaze $14.95) No, not the book (or movie). Wednesday brought us to our favorite pizza joint, Max and Leos, where we found a new pizza on the menu and obviously had to try it. Instant success that I think will become a part of our regular rotation.
Read of the Week: Anthony Bourdain’s final words as No Reservations comes to an end. Reading it made me even more excited to see him live at Symphony Hall in a few weeks.
Past Read on BE: Because it’s Friday. Enjoy. Restaurant Concepts You Will Most Likely Never See by Jon.
Highlight: Being thankful that our families in NY and NJ are doing alright after the devastation caused by Sandy.
What are you doing this weekend?
