Three Things to Order: Brunch at Deep Ellum

For me, Deep Ellum is synonymous with craft cocktails and good, affordable food. Their Allston location is always an option for us coming from Newton, but it usually remains towards the end of our dinner options due to past long wait times. When we decided to go for brunch, we waltzed right to a table, and enjoyed a high-quality brunch meal. And wait until you see their prices.
Three Things to Order for brunch at Deep Ellum:
This is a no brainer. Served in a short old fashioned glass, this no-frills classic brunch drink will help get your morning going. And for $7, have a few!
2) Fall River French Toast with Portuguese sweet bread egg dipped and griddled served with maple syrup and powdered sugar ($7)
Aside from pancakes, french toast is Jon breakfast go-to. Deep Ellum’s is spot on, using thick slices of Portuguese sweet bread for a slightly different twist on french toast.
3) Deep Ellum Breakfast Burrito with 2 scrambled eggs, pepper jack cheese, green onions, tomatoes, hot sauce and house made sausage wrapped in a flour tortilla ($8)
Burritos are not very photogenic, but what this one may lack in beauty is made up for in taste. Most notably, the Kentucky sausage provides an unexpected sweetness to the burrito, replacing its more salty cousin, traditional breakfast sausage. Ingredients are all well-incorporated into the burrito, with enough filling to create a satisfy, yet easy-to-eat, doesn’t-require-a-hundred-napkins burrito.
Runners Up
Bourbon Milk Punch with bourbon, aged run, cinnamon syrup, milk, bitter ($10)
Jon had paired his french toast with a cocktail from their regular menu. The combination was so good they should move this drink to the brunch menu and offer it as a suggestion with the french toast.
Country Fried Steak with skirt steak pan fried w/ sausage gravy and Texas toast
($10, or with two eggs $12)
I’m going on a limb with this one, as it is very easy to over cook country fried anything. But when this one is done right, it’s absolutely delicious. The combination of a perfectly fried, tender piece of skirt steak topped with flavorful gravy that isn’t too rich is delightful. Besides, I don’t know of too many with country fried steak around Beantown, and Deep Ellum’s is definitely a treat.
Deep Ellum is located at 477 Cambridge St in Allston. Brunch is served Monday – Friday, 11am – 4 pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm.
